Infromation | Motoaikai possesses a spectacular view of the white cliffs along the grand Mogami River. Upon these cliffs, ruins of the medieval Yamuki Castle can still be found, and midway up the steep slope is the red Yamuki Shrine that was visited by 12C Military commander Minamoto Yoshitsune. Poets Matsuo Basho and Sora also passed through here on a boat. A statue of the two was erected near where they passed through, and the area is nationally designated as a scenic beauty of the Oku no Hosomichi, Journey to the Deep North a major work of Matsuo Basho. |
