Infromation | Shinjo Festival of floats, a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, was first held in 1756 by the feudal lord Masanobu Tozawa to lift the spirits of people distraught from the previous year's poor harvest, and to pray for the next harvest. Old-fashioned mikoshi palanquins are paraded along with 20 extravagant floats depicting famous Kabuki and historical scenes. Beautiful tunes from traditional Japanese instruments can be heard throughout. |
